• "Stationery" with an "-ery" is material, such as a personalized note card from Good Gravy!, that you use for correspondence.
• "Stationary" with an "-ary" is the description of an object that is fixed or immobile, such as a stationary bike.
You could use your personalized stationery to write about your latest stationary bike ride. But, if you're allergic to exercise like I am (self-diagnosed, of course), you'll probably write on your personalized stationery about your love for being stationary.
And now you know. :)

i learned something today...thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI always have trouble with this one! so I now remember this by "e" means envelope to know it goes with stationery. ha!
ReplyDeleteMy way to remember this is stationery has an er like pap-er.
ReplyDeleteI just ran across this post. I was taught the difference by the "e" for envelope. Since that day, many years ago, I never have forgotten the difference in the two.
